The Crossbench can exclusively reveal that the Green Party’s National Spokesperson for Business and Trade and ex-MP candidate Jo Bird has surfaced in a nearly 2-year old clip, seemingly calling for the support of members of the proscribed terrorist group Palestine Action. The remarks were made whilst speaking at a pro-Palestine rally.
In a video published on her own TikTok account on the 9th December 2024, Bird featured herself speaking at the pro-Palestine rally about how “Palestine Actionists took direct action” on the Teledyne factory in her ward, and subsequently asking the crowd to show their support for the Palestine Action members who had done so.
The factory, located on Tebay Road in Bromborough, has been targeted by Palestine Action on multiple occasions in recent years. The group claimed responsibility for an incident in July 2024, when a vehicle was driven into the factory gates and red paint was sprayed around the site. In October 2024, activists again targeted the premises, with police reporting damage to the building following an incident in which the arrested members accessed the factory’s rooftop, cut through it and entered the building, again spraying the building with red paint.
Shortly after the criminal damage was committed at the Bromborough factory, she published a video criticising that very factory’s manufacturing activities. In early October 2024, she also said that it is the party’s belief that ‘all arms sales to Israel should be stopped.”
Her criticism of the factory’s activities, combined with her subsequent remarks encouraging support for Palestine Action members, raises big questions about where she considers the line to be between campaigning against a private company’s activities and expressing support for activists targeting its premises.
Jo Bird was appointed the Green Party’s National Spokesperson for Business and Trade on 11th August 2025. The party said at the time that Bird would focus on “fairer and greener business policies”, alongside representing Bromborough as a councillor, where the aforementioned factory is located. When taking up the role, she said that the party “support[s] small and local businesses that serve their local communities”, just 8 months after the video in question was published on her TikTok account.
